Biography

George William Wright was born in about 1860. He was the son of Jakeh and Fanny Wright. He was christened on 13 May 1860 at St Mary's Church in Oldham, Lancashire. His father's occupation was recorded as bookbinder, and the family's address as Barn Street, Horsedge.

George married Clara Halkyard on 22 Dec 1884 in St Thomas, Werneth, Lancashire, and their marriage was registered in Oldham district, Lancashire, England. Neither of them had been married before. George was 24 and a butcher; he lived at 142 Horsedge Street. Clara was 23 and a reeler; she lived at 24 Napier Street West. Their fathers were named as Jakeh Wright (book binder) and Miles Halkyard (labourer). The witnesses were N. Halkyard and Margaret A. Grimshaw.

They appear not to have had any children - no birth registrations of Wright children with mother's maiden name Halkyard were found - and Clara died on 16 Oct 1886.

George died on 14 Apr 1926, aged 66 and was buried on 19 Apr 1926 in the consecrated section of Chadderton Cemetery, in grave K6 168. His address was recorded as 30 Widdop Street. The funeral was conducted by G. Whitehead.
