Biography
Joseph's tombstone gives his date of birth as August 10, 1800. However, Census records all place his year of birth between 1810 to 1814. [1]
He married "Irena" Parker on November 4, 1927 in Rowan County, North Carolina. [2] In the 1850 Census Joseph Wyatt was living with his wife, Irene, and eight children in Bibb County, Alabama where he farmed. His oldest children were born in North Carolina, but starting with his daughter Sarah, 13, the rest were born in Alabama, suggesting a move to that that State by 1837. [3]
Irene and Joseph's last child was born in 1854 and she died sometime shortly after that. Joseph then married Susan Webb on October 4, 1857, [4] their marriage bond was posted on October 4. [5] She appears with Joseph in the 1860 Census for Bibb County with six children, all boys, from his previous marriage to Irene. The Census placed them on the west side of the Cahaba River. [6]
Susannah died after 1860 but before the time of the 1866 Census when Joseph is enumerated in a household with only himself and 3 boys, between 10 and 20, and no females [7]
Joseph was married for a third time to Mary Goodwin, posting the marriage bond on March 15, 1870. Signing the bond was Joseph Wyatt and Henry Parker. [8][9] Joseph and Mary are in the 1870 Census in Bibb County with Joseph's youngest son, Crawford. He is a farmer, with real estate valued at $500 and personal property of $1,000. [10]
Joseph died on July 10, 1876 and was buried in the Bethel Cemetery in Brent, Bibb County, Alabama. [1] The administrator for his estate was his son Lewis (Louis), as can be seen in the probate papers filed in Bibb County. [11]
Research Note
It doesn't seem likely that Joseph is the son of John Wyatt and Mary Trimble. The original profile did not have John and Mary as his parents, and the tree used in the GEDcom transfer has his parents listed as unknown. They were added later, probably based on numerous online trees which are perpetuating the connection. John and Mary were in Virginia and then Arkansas. Joseph originated in North Carolina and settled in Alabama. They are being detached until further evidence can be found.
There is a record for a Joseph Wyeth (Wyatt?) in the 1830 Census in Rowan County, North Carolina. If it is indeed for joseph Wyatt, and not Wyath, it may well be the subject of this profile as his age fits, a man 20-29, as does that of his young bride, a woman 15-19 and a young girl under 5. [12]
