Henry Wyatt was born about 1820 to Henry Wyatt and Susanna Foster in Rutherford County, Tennessee. His family had come from Henry County, Virginia to Tennessee and later moved on to Kentucky.
Henry married Martha Dyer about 1846, they appear in the 1850 Census in Trigg County, Kentucky with two young children. Also in their household was his widowed father, Henry, and his three youngest siblings. [1]
By 1860 he and Martha had moved on to Graves County, Kentucky, where they would remain for the rest of their lives. [2][3][4][5] There is a biographical sketch of Henry's son Benjamin Wyatt which also contains a short monograph about Henry and Martha. He was cited as the son of Henry "Harry" Wyatt and she the daughter of Joel Dyer. "They lived a good number of years in Trigg County before moving to Graves County near Mayfield where his life's pursuit was farming. They were members of the Missionary Baptist Church and lived long and useful lives". [6]
Henry Wyatt died at his home two miles east of Mayfield, Kentucky on January 9, 1906, after a short illness. He was 87 years of age. "Henry Wyatt, one of the county's venerable and highly respected farmers, died Tues. night about 10:30 PM at his home two miles east of the city. He was 87 years of age and had been ill since Christmas Day. Advanced age and general debility is the cause of his demise. He had been a resident of the county during his entire life and leaves many friends and relatives who deeply regret his departure. Besides a wife, he is survived by five daughters and three sons namely: Ann Hargrove, Fannie Smith, Betsy Smith, Nelia Clark, and Nannie Fuller and J. F., B. F. and R. W. Wyatt. The deceased was an uncle of Mr. C. C. Wyatt and the grandfather of Mr. Ed and Andrew Wyatt of Mayfield. Burial at the family burial ground near his home." The family burial ground was the Smith-Wyatt Cemetery. [7][8]
Henry died intestate and his will was probated on May 14, 1906. On motion of Martha E. Wyatt, widow, her sons J. F. and B. F. Wyatt were appointed administrators. [9]
