Biography

Katherine Wyatt, commonly known as "Katy", "Katey" was born abt. 1784-1790 in Wilkes, North Carolina, USA.^[1] (note that 1784 has been seen but without substantiation). Her parents appear to be Aaron Wyatt and Mary (Ansley) Wyatt.[Note that she is seen as a sibling to others who show parent names - an actual source showing her accurate birth date and parents on the same source is still needed.]

On 30 Apr 1811 Abdiel Darnell is shown as having entered a land grant for 100 acres at the Falling Branch River area, Wilkes, NC. The grant papers show an issue date of 24 Nov 1813. Aaron Wyatt and William Wyatt are also named on the grant - but I do not know how to interpret the relevance. NOTE that Abdell's surname is scribed as Darnall and Darnell on the same record.^[2]

In 1840 Abdiel Darnell (abt.1778-abt.1853)(known to be the husband of Katherine) is seen as head of household in McNiels District, Wilkes, NC (being a free white male 60-69), living with a free white female 60-69 (note this is 10 years older than Katherine was known to be), 1 white male between 15-19, and 2 white females between 20-29.^[3]

In 1850 "Katey" (60), and husband, Abdiel Darnell (shown as Abel Darnell) (70), were still living in Wilkes, NC, the area where they were both born.^[1] Living in the same household were 5 others whose relationships were not provided: Jennet Hall (30), Susan Hall (6), Joseph Lee (60), Wain (possibly Wayne?) Lee (19), and Charles Lee (10).^[1]

Research Notes

I have included several sources that show Katherine's known husband to substantiate location. The two census records do not name anyone except head of household. One must process the age of males and females in the household.

Katherine's Maiden Name was Wyatt

Katherine has been seen with various spellings for a nickname - Katy, Katey, and Katie.

The land grant secured by Abdiel Darnell (note his surname is spelled both ways on the same record) has the names Aaron and Wm Wyatt scribed at the end of the grant.^[2] Aaron was her father; Wm, her brother.

BIRTH: Need Birth RecordWiki has an estimated DOB of 1790, however I have also seen 1783 and about 1779 in Wilkes County. I have been unable to find a source.
