John was born in 1628. He was the son of Henry Wynn and Catherine Lloyd. He passed away in 1719.[1]
Sir John Wynn, 5th Baronet (1628–1719) was a Welsh landowner and MP[2].
He was the only son of Henry Wynn of Rhiwgoch, Merioneth and educated at the Inner Temple, 1646. He inherited the Watstay Estate through his marriage to Jane Evans (daughter of Eytyn Evans of Watstay), which he renamed the Wynnstay Estate. He also, allegedly, won the manor of Stanwardine in Shropshire from Thomas Corbett in a snail race.
He succeeded his cousin Sir Richard Wynn, 4th Baronet as a baronet in 1674 but did not inherit the Gwydyr Estate, which passed to his predecessor's daughter Mary.
He served as High Sheriff of Denbighshire for 1671-3, as High Sheriff of Caernarvonshire for 1674-75 and as High Sheriff of Merionethshire for 1675-76. He was Custos Rotulorum of Merionethshire for 1678-1688, 1690–96 and 1700-11.[3][4]
A Post-nuptial settlement describes Sir John Wynne of Watstay, co. Denbighshire, Knight and Baronet, as the father of Jane Wynn who married Thomas Hanmer, Gent, of Overton, Flintshire[5]: "Indenture, whereby (in consideration of a marriage already solemnized between Thomas Hanmer of Overton fforreigne, co. Flint, gent., and Jane, daughter of Sir John Wynne of Watstay, co. Denb., kt and bart, and of a prenuptial settlement, dated 18 Sept. 1700, and of £700, the marriage portion of the said Jane Hanmer) the said Thomas Hanmer". The Erbistock Parish registers and a book called the History of Princes record that Jane Wynn was an illegitimate daughter of Sir John Wynn by Elizabeth Partin, daughter of William Partin of the Gefeiliau [6][7]
