Research Notes

Ann, "who is mentioned as daughter Ann Sturdivant in the 1760 Sussex will of her father Sloman Wynne."[4]

Sloman's daughter Ann (Wynne) Sturdivant & her husband Charles ("the third son of Henry Sturdivant") had six children. Their first-born son Charles Williams Sturdivant (b 1761) married Sally Wynne.[4]

Elizabeth Wynne, daughter mentioned in Sloman's will, had a son Robert Wynne born out of wedlock 16 July 1759 (Albemarle Parish Register [1]). She married after her father's death to Samuel Rottenberry. She died in 1802. Sloman's grandson Robert Wynne died on the battlefield at Brandywine 11 September 1776 per the petition of his cousin William Wynne of Wake Co., NC. (eldest heir of son Matthew by 1811) which file includes the will of Sloman Wynn dated 30 June 1760, proved 17 Dec 1761 at Sussex County Court.

Wynne-546 and Wynne-499 appear to represent the same person because: Dates and information in Boddie's Virginia Historical Genealogies (1954, pp 181-2) I do believe that the correct father is Joshua and not Thomas based on Boddie and research of other genealogists that I have read. I believe that the death date of 1760-1 is correct based on the will. I don't have firm evidence on the birth date so would defer to the older profile's date as well.

Wynne-546 and Wynne-499 do not represent the same person because: No source to back up the merge. Children and spouse don't match although both are mentioned by name in the will sourced for Wynne-499. Plus, the fathers are brothers whose mother's maiden name is Sloman making it conceivable they are first cousins with the same first name, different spouses, different dates of birth, different children.

Well this is odd...I just found his will transcribed above but it is dated 30 June 1760, proved 17 Dec 1761 in Sussex County. Images 7 thru 9 here: http://digitool1.lva.lib.va.us:8881/R/3RIXKKFLAQ14T63M83K6DQJYPE4F6RPFVXV3U29MLLMJDYC1BX-01210?func=search

Link did not send me to any images. I know nothing about Sloman Wynne as I took over as it had no profile manager. Please feel free to make any necessary changes and add sources as you find them. Thanks.

Hi Debra, I couldn't figure out a direct link so changed it to the search tool with the term "Sloman Wynne" and added notes from the petition in the file. The other profile for Sloman Wynne has the will date/death location of this transcribed will (clearly born too late) and is possibly the mentioned son.

Sloman Wynne of Brunswick County with child named Stith must be related to this family. From his May 5, 1778 will, his wife was Mary & children were Peter, Stith, Mathew, and Elizabeth. Granddaughter was Mary Sloman Wynne.

will proved 23 Oct 1780 (Moses Quarles security)

see the transcript on this page

I added the information about m to Sturdivant that I'd posted to Slowman Wynne-267. But I don't think that this profile and Wynne-267 are duplicates - the dates are too far off. If the father of Slowman Wynne-267 (b 1738) is Joshua, it is probably the son of the Joshua who was son of Mary Frances & Robert Wynne. (born 1738, it can't be Robert's son Joshua, who died 1715).
