Biography

Born about 1834 in Mason County, West Virginia, USA.[1]

Emmaline, or later also called Emma, Yeager is born to Joseph Yeager and his wife Mary Rickard Yeager.

Note: The names behind the birthyears of the following 1840 Census are only guesses! To make it easier to compare later records.

1840 I assume this to be Emma's father Joseph Yaeger listed in Mason County, Virginia.[2]

  • born 1840-1835: 1 female (Ann E. *1837)
  • born 1835-1830: 1 male (Albert *1830), 2 females (Sarah *Jul 1830 and Emaline *1834)
  • born 1830-1825: 2 males (Lorenzo *Aug. 1827 and ???)
  • born 1825-1820: 1 male (???)
  • born 1820-1810: 1 female (Elizabeth *1816)
  • born 1810-1800: 1 female (???)
  • born 1800-1790: 1 female (Mary *Sep. 1790)
  • born 1790-1780: 1 male (Joseph *Jan. 1790)

24 Aug 1850 Emma's family is still listed in Mason County, Virginia.[3] I don't think the two youngest boys, Henry and James, are Emma's brothers, since her mother would have been rather old to have more children. To me it is more likely that they are nephews, but I can't be sure yet.

Emma marries Samuel Nutter about 1854. Their first child, James Elmer Nutter, is born on 28 Mar 1855 in West Columbia, Mason County, Virginia.[4] In 1857 their second son Curtis Matthew Nutter is born also in Mason County, Virginia.[5] They have a baby daughter on 23 Oct 1859, but she dies shortly after birth.[6] Over the next years they have two more children die at or shortly after birth also.[7]

Emma's father Joseph dies of old age on 4 May 1860.

I was not able to locate Emma and her family in 1860 yet, but their third son, Robert Edgar Nutter is born on 8 Sep 1860[8][9] and listed as born in West Viginia in 1870. They did move to Ohio sometime in the 1860s though.

11 June 1870 Emma, her husband Samuel and their three boys are listed in Syracuse Township, Meigs County, Ohio.[10] Samuel is working as a stone cutter.

On 30 May 1871 Emma's daughter Ella Nutter is born still in Syracuse, Meigs County, Ohio.[11][12], but the family returns to Mason County, West Virginia sometime after Ella's birth. Emma's daughter May Tolla Nutter is born in Point Pleasant, Mason County, West Virginia on 7 Sep 1874.[13]

12 June 1880 Emma's family is now listed living on Viand Street, Lewis District, Mason County, West Virginia.[14] Her husband Samuel is listed as Invalid and dealing with coal.

Emma's husband Samuel dies in Point Pleasant, Mason, West Virginia on 19 Jul 1890 when he is 63 years old. The cause is listed as unknown.[15]

Died 12 May 1894 in Point Pleasant, Mason, West Virginia, USA.[16]

Emma dies from breast cancer when she is 60 years old.

Buried at the Lone Oak Cemetery in Point Pleasant, Mason County, West Virginia, USA .[17]
