Biography

Celia Young was born about 1818 in Missouri. She married her first cousin Eliab Hughes, son of Jesse Hughes and Mary Buckelew (see Appendix VII). Eliab Hughes appears in the 1840 census in Adams County, Illinois with 1 male 10-15, 3 males 20-30, 1 female under 5, and 1 female 20-30.Eliab Hughes appears in the 1850 census in Melrose twp., Adams County, Illinois (next to the family of Celia's sister Priscilla) as follows: Eliab Hughes, 40, b. KY, farmer, real estate $2000; Cecelia, 30, b. MO; May D., 8, b. IL; William, 6, b. IL; Miller, 4, b. IL; Priscilla, 2, b. IL; Dempsey Triplet, 15, b. MO; Hezekiah Triplet, 17, b. MO. (These last two are children of Celia's sister Mary.)Eliab Hughes appears in the 1860 census in Melrose, Adams County, Illinois as follows: Eliab, 52, farmer, b. KY, real estate $4000, personal $600; Cilia, 42, b. MO; William, 16, b. IL; Miller, 14; Priscilla, 10; Adaline, 7; George, 2, Hiram, 3/12.
