Burial

A cenotaph for Alfred Young was placed upon the grave of his wife, Sephalina Manuel. Though Alfred's actual burial place has not been located as of April 2014, it is thought that he may have been buried in the Lafleur-Savoy Cemetery in Savoy, several miles east of Eunice, or in the Chataignier area. ^[1]

"On March 3, 1862, Alfred enlisted in the Confederate Arm and was assigned to Company C (St. Landry Light Guards), 6th Regiment, Louisiana Infantry. The Regiment was sent to Virginia where it fought with Stonewall Jackson in the Shenendoah Valley. Alfred was captured at Fredericksburg, Virginia in April, 1863. On June 14 he was wounded at the battle of Winchester and returned t duty in September, 1863. He was again captured by Union Forces on November 7, 1863 at the battle of Rappahannock and exchanged on March 9, 1864. Alfred was captured a third time at Mine Run, Virginia on March 15, 1865. He was paroled April 10, 1865, when the war ended. His military record lists him as being 23 years of age, 5'10" in height, hazel eyes, dark hair, dark complexion, born in Louisiana and a resident of St. Landry Parish."

"Alfred and Cephaline resided in the Faquetaique Prarie where, according to an estimative inventory taken after Alfred's death in about 1885, they owned two tracts of land. The first tract is described as 100 arpents of prairie land which was bounded north by Valcourt Aguillard, south by railroad lands, east by Jules Fruge and west by Eloi Savoie. The second tract is described as sixty superficial arpents, more or less, situated in Bayou Dozas woods, located in Sections 49 and 59, T-6-S; R-1-E, bounded on the North by lands of Dorsin L. A. Fontenot, South by lands of Bazile Rougeau, East by blank and on the West by lands of Theophile P.
