Andrew was born in Mecklenburg County, North Carolina, about 1759.[1] He was a Patriot during the Revolutionary War. He entered the service of the United States as a volunteer in the Month of March 1781 as a private in a troop of horse commanded by Captain Peter Burns in Mecklenburg County, North Carolina.[2]
Andrew marched to South Carolina, His company was attached to General Sumpter's Brigade, Colonel Hampton's Regiment and Major Rutherford's Battalion. He marched to Augusta, Georgia, and then to Savannah. He marched back to South Carolina and was engaged in a scrimmage with British forces at onersburg (Orangeburg?). He was at the Battle of the Eutaw Springs on the 8 September 1781 where Major Rutherford was killed. He remained some time in the Army until the month of January 1782. For a period of 10 months that he was in the service of the United States as a trooper when he was regularly discharged in South Carolina He removed from North Carolina to Kentucky in 1798 where he resided for the rest of his life.[3]
Andrew died in Washington County, Kentucky and was laid to rest on the farm cemetery, now called the Andrew Young Cemetery.[4]
Andrew appears on the Kentucky Tax List for 1800[5], the 1810 Census[6], the 1830 Census[7], and the 1840 Census[8], all in Washington County, Kentucky.
