Additional Data

Wedding
ORTON— YOUNG
All Saints' Cathedral, Bathurst, was on Wednesday night the scene of a pretty wedding, when Mr Harry Orton, only son of the late Mr. Henry Orton, of Newcastle, was united in the holy bonds of matrimony with Miss Lily Young, daughter of the late Mr Edward Young, of Bathurst, granddaughter of the late Mr John Henry Young, of Sydney, great-grand daughter of Major Young, of the English Army, great-great-grand-daughter of Colonel Atkinson, of the 99th Regiment, and grand niece of Mr. Arthur Joseph Young, of Belgrave Square, London. The church was beautifully decorated by the girl friends of the bride, a feature of the decorations being a large floral bell suspended over the spot where the nuptial knot was tied. Very Rev Dean Marriott, assisted by Rev Gordon Tidy, performed the ceremony. The choir, of which the bride was for a long time a member, was in attendance and sang The voice that Breathed o'er Eden, while the Wedding March was played on the organ by Mr T H Massey. The bride, who was given away by her brother, Mr Edward ('Cook') Young, was attired in white Japanese silk, prettily trimmed with Irish crochet, and wore the usual wreath and veil. She also wore a diamond ring and carried a shower bouquet, the gifts of the bridegroom. Misses N Orton (sister of the bridegroom) and Lily Browne (of Sydney) acted as bridesmaids. Miss Orton's dress was of chiffon voile, trimmed with Valenciennes lace and ribbon to match, and she wore a white chiffon hat. Her gifts from the bridegroom took the form of a gold emerald and pearl brooch, and a shower bouquet. Miss Browne, who carried a floral wand and a gold brooch set with pearls and sapphires, the presents of the bridegroom, wore a pale blue crepe de chene dress, with trimmings of Irish crochet andValenciennes lace, her outfit being completed with a pictresque hat. The bride's present to the bridegroom was a pair of sleeve links. Rev Peter Smith acted as best man, and Mr Sid Mathews performed the duties of groomsman. As the bridal party left the church, the bells chimed a merry peal. At the subsequent wedding breakfast, which was served in the Coronation hall under the supervision of Mrs W McCarthy (cateress), over 100 guests were in attendance, and after the usual toasts were honored a couple of hours' dancing was indulged in. Mrs Young (mother of the bride) were black voile, relieved with twine colored lace, and black hat, trimmed with feathers ; Mrs Orton (mother of the bridegroom), black voile, trimmed with chifton, and white chiffon hat with bebe roses; Mrs J H Moore, Sydney, black Japanese silk, trimmed with black chiffon jet, a black and white model hat, trimmed with feathers.; Miss Ethel Peters, Wellington, navy blue silk, trimmed with twine applique, and white picture hat ; Miss Nina Peters, Sydney, cream voile with burnt straw hat, trimmed with floral ribbon ; Mrs James Colvin, navy blue voile, with red hat ; Mrs. Dan Mathews, pale blue voile, trimmed with Valenciennes lace, and a white hat trimmed with chiffon and ribbon. The happy couple, who were the recipients of a large and valuable collection of presents, including a silver cruet stand from All Saints' Cathedral Choir, left by the second division of the mail to spend their honeymoon at Nowra, South Coast. The bride travelled in pale blue chiffon voile, trimmed with twine colored Valenciennes lace and floral ribbon and a biscuit colored hat, with trimmings to match.
