William Henry Young, son of William Young and Mary Gatland, was born in 1823 in Middlesex, England. Like his father, William Henry was a bricklayer. William married Sarah Hyde, daughter of John Hyde, in Surrey, England, in 1852; William Henry signed his name, Sarah made her mark. Three years later, William, a 25-year-old bricklayer, and Sarah, age 24, immigrated to Australia.
