He held an impressive number of highly respected jobs: Sheriff of Ellis county, Texas; Lawyer; Judge in Hill county, Texas; as a member of the State Legislature, he represented the counties of Hill, Navarro, Ellis and Kaufman; Teacher at the first school in Hill county; and his census records show he was also a Farmer.
Harvey also served in two wars: As a Texas Ranger, he served in the Mexican-American War. He was also a veteran of the Civil War; Confederate; 13th Texas Cavalry; Rank: Major.
Married Elvira Ann Jackson. They had at least 3 children: a daughter with the initials A. T., son Othello Harvey and daughter Lola Minnie.
