I am looking for family members of John Place born 1719 in London England.  He was married to Elizabeth Dunce.  There is a possible name change at this time in our line from de la Place to just Place since there could be a link to the Heuganot group that came from Holland about this time.  I have all the paperwork after this person but nothing earlier.

BTW, it's "huguenot".  You might like to retag your question so it gets seen by the right folks. ;o)

Familysearch has a couple of possibilites in the right timeframe that you might want to consider. One is baptised in 1718 at St. Botolph Without Aldgate. The other in 1719 at St. Dunstan´s, Stepney. If you look further into the Stepney one be aware that this church was often used to register children born at sea.

I suspect this is he: John PLace., the son of Anthoney Place &  Elizabeth who was Christened 19 December 1719, Stepney, St, Dunstan. (https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:J3CR-2BC)

John married Elizabeth Dunce, St. George Hanover Square, in 1844 (Westminster Marriages).

Thank-you Ron.  this is the data I also have but wasn't confident that I had found the right person.  The way they spell Anthoney is the link since most didn't put the e in on most of the old documents I found, so I think that gives me more confidence.  I will forward this to the others in our group looking for this data and they can see if it will help us get back further.  I really am trying to get the paper trail to get us to Yorkshire, due to a 100% match with a fellow on my Place surname group in FTDNA who has a good paper trail to Bedale Yorkshire.

Thanks Ron;  My genealogy notes agree with that.  Now to get further back.  I am guessing that Anthoney, with an "e" in his name is the father but I have no wife's name yet to go on.  Heuganot links keep grabbing at me at this point due to a DNA match in Aachen Germany, the site of Aix le Chappelle in Charlemagne's time and the fact that one of my aunts went back to Arles France to visit "family" according to some old documents.  I am just guessing but I think they left France, went to Holland and then on to London. Placetow, just a few miles from the church we are dealing with, was the site of the Place family country home from Halnaby Hall, according to some documents, so maybe they were even coming to a place they had some connection with.  Just speculation. I wrote to the owner of Hallnaby Hall and she invited me to visit when I was in England and she said she would show me a Place family crest in the great hall of an estate around there.  Maybe not mine, but still interesting to see something like that.
I have been working on finding Anthoney's ancestors for months now without success. Anyone got some ideas. The possible loss of the prefix de la before Place may be the clue but I just can't find enough information to feel confident enough to write it in my tree. Has anyone else tracked a change in their Place line that has this change. I really think I have to get my ancestors out of London to Yorkshire before I am going to make progress.
