Biography

Abigail Fillmore was born on May 9, 1762 in Rhode Island. (is there a source for this birth date and location?)[1]

She married Thomas Wheaton and came travelled to Nova Scotia with him in 1783. They settled in Sackville, which later became part of New Brunswick. Many secondary sources have a marriage date of 20 Aug 1778 in Sackville Parish, Cumberland Co., Nova Scotia, but this cannot be if they left New York in 1783.

Abigail died sometime after 1830 in Sackville Parish, Westmorland Co., New Brunswick, as she was mentioned in her husband's will, and he died on August 26, 1830.

Disputed Parents

Some web sites have her as the daughter of Comfort and Zerviah Fillmore. The book "So Soon Forgotton - Three Thousand Fillmores' by Charles Fillmore does not include a daughter Abigail for Comfort and Zerviah and has no record of any of Comfort's family being Loyalist. And if they were, married a year after Abigail was born.

Descent from Zerviah Boswick is not supported by the Mayflower Society.

Research Notes

Although widely repeated, the birthdate assigned to this person may not belong to her. It seems to be conflated with Abigail Wheaton

The birth date recorded here for Abigail Fillmore is actually for Abigail "Wheaton" who was the daughter of Comfort Wheaton and Anne Blake. Abigail Wheaton was born May 9 1762 in Providence RI. People have been using this birth record for Abigail Fillmore but it is for Abigail Wheaton:[2]

The death date is also in question since there is no source given. It also appears that this birth date was used in Find a Grave and since there is no source documented and no gravestone pictured, I think that entry is incorrect as well.[3] (there is no death date except that she outlived her husband, therefore "after 1830" is reported. Roland, would you remove the connection between Abigail and the parents you just added, at the very least, for Zerviah Bosworth? It gives erroneous Mayflower connections to descendants. Alternatively, prove the connection to the satisfaction of the Mayflower Society and post the results here. I know you can't prove that because it's a bogus connection.

Stu, it's done. Think I included those parents at the request of another wiki-tree-er recently.

I usually follow weekly notes from the wiki e-mail that I receive on Wednesdays.

Thanks Roland. Every once in while I check my Mayflower Connections and that link just pops up front and center. I’ve asked about it in G2G to see what can be done to prevent connections like this from recurring. I appreciate your quick response.

Judy, the FAG profile for Abigail Wheaton you linked to is correct. Her maiden name is Fillmore. Reading your first paragraph doesn't make sense. She was not a "Wheaton" until she was married.

Stu, The FAG profile gives her birth year and place as 1762 in Rhode Island. That is the birth year and place for an Abigail Wheaton. It is not the birth year and place for Abigail (Fillmore) Wheaton. The birth date and place listed in this wiki record is for Abigail Wheaton who was the daughter of Comfort Wheaton and Anne Blake (as shown in the first link in my comment above). I have not yet found a birth record for Abigail Fillmore who married Thomas Wheaton (my 4GGF) but I keep looking.

The familysearch tree link included has absolutely no sources attached to her so i think it would make sense to remove it from these Sources. I could find no actual records in familysearch for her birth in Rhode Island.

Fillmore-174 and Fillmore-771 appear to represent the same person because: married to same person

Fillmore-596 and Fillmore-174 appear to represent the same person because: Sane person, Spouse is already merged. Son Benjamin also needs merging.

Stuart - According to the information on Thomas Wheaton, he arrived in NS in 1783, with his wife Abigail Fillmore. (http://www.wheatonjk.co.uk/James_WHEATON_1738-1809.htm). I agree that they could not have married in Sackville in 1778. I'm removing that date and location for now, until a source is found for their marriage.

What is your source for Abigail's birth date and for parents being Comfort Fillmore and Zerviah Bosworth? The book "So Soon Forgotton - Three Thousand Fillmores' by Charles Fillmore does not include a daughter Abigail for Comfort and Zerviah and has no record of any of Comfort's family being Loyalist. And if they were married a year after Abigail was born.

I find this entry confusing. If Abigail was a Loyalist, she probably arrived in NS near 1783. Marriage in NS in 1778 is unlikley. Also, her parents didn't come to NS so she was likely married before the immigration. However, she did have an uncle in Cumberland as early as 1763 when John Fillmore arrived.

When did Abigail arrive in NS?

Fillmore-174 and Fillmore-212 appear to represent the same person because: Have removed the other Thomas Wheaton as a spouse of Abigail Fillmore. These should be merged. Only conflicting info is birth date and location. I suggest we merge and put the alternate birth date in the bio.
