Pocket Peerage of Great Britain and Ireland states that Hugh is the 4th son of Thomas Beresford, of Newton and Bentley, co. Derby and Agnes Hassal.

Thank you, Joyce, for offering to help improve that profile. It is a pre-1500 profile so you can not add the sources yourself. If you would please post the information here then a pre-1500 certified member may be able to use it.

The England Project may want to look at this profile and those attached. Your contributions would be very much appreciated.

Thank you for being a great WikiTreerer!

Hi Joyce,

Hugh is already attached to those parents.  I can add the source, but would need the full information on it, i.e. which edition is it, who wrote/published it, when was it published, what page is the information on?

I've added tags for England, EuroAristo, and Medieval to bring this to the attention of project members.  You would want to use any/all of those on future posts depending on what applied to the profile.  Thanks!

Thank you.  I'm still looking for more information on him.  Most of it seems to be included in sources for his father Thomas, who also seems to need some sources.  I'm new to this, so do I just post them all here when I find them, or do I contact you directly?
Thank you Joyce. Can you put chapter and verse in a comment on his profile please? I have found another source which says he was the third son (of 16 sons and 5 daughters!)
His father's biography is cut-and-paste verbatim from the Wikipedia entry for Fenny Bentley.
I just added a couple of comments to Hugh's page with the sources I have found.  Thank you.
Thanks, Joyce.  I've added the information and sources to his profile.  Since I'm not a PM on the profile, the only way I would know that you added comments would be to reply to the G2G post with the information.  Since you noted that you left the comments, I knew and was able to make the changes.  Unfortunately, some of the PMs for these medieval profiles aren't pre-1500 certified.  As a result, they can't do anything with the profile.  I always recommend that someone ask to be on the trusted list for pre-1500 profiles as opposed to adopting them.

Since Stephen is pre-1500 certified and manages the father's profile, I'll leave it to the two of you for other information.  Thanks to both of you for your assistance in sourcing the profile!
Thank you.  I'm just muddling my way through, but when I saw that Hugh didn't have any real sources, I went looking and found some, even though some have conflicting information.  I'm having a great time discovering ancestors so far back, and in England, which I love.  I think I was born on the wrong continent.  Thanks again.
Thanks Darlene. I suggested putting the sources on the profile because that way they are there for anyone to see without clicking through to this question. I am not PM for the father, but have adopted one of his brothers who was orphaned. There are a number of issues with this family - I will carry on working on them on behalf of the Derbyshire team (England Project), so, Joyce, please keep sending me any more sources you find. Thanks!
Stephen, I totally understand.  With Joyce being new, I wanted her to understand how things work on Wikitree.  If someone places a note on a profile where there is only an individual PM, and the PM isn't active, the comment can sit for years unnoticed.  So it was good that she reached out via G2G to discuss.  Glad you two connected and can work on it together.
Thank you, Darlene and Stephen, for stepping in to assist Joyce. This is the collaboration of WikiTree and G2G at its best!
