Would You Like to Participate in a One Name Study? [closed]

A One Name Study (ONS) is defined as a project which researches all occurrences of a surname, rather than a particular pedigree (ancestors of one person) or descendancy (descendants of one person or couple).

One of the foundations of WikiTree is our commitment to collaboration, and we have expanded and clarified the guidelines for all ONS projects to ensure that each project serves as a collaborative platform that focuses on researching all occurrences of an individual surname across the globe.

Images_used_in_G2G-50.pngFrom here, individual team studies and research pages can then be used to branch out into specific methods or areas of interest; such as geographically (SURNAME's of England), by time period (SURNAME's of the 18th Century), or by topic (e.g., SURNAME DNA, SURNAME Occupations, or SURNAME Statistics/Facts).

Are you ready to get started with a One Name Study? There are many ways to join!

  1. You can join an existing Name Study;
  2. You can adopt a Name Study that needs an ONS Coordinator; or
  3. You can start a new Name Study by emailing the ONS Project Leaders!

Stop by the One Name Study Project page for more information on How To Join!

Requirements

To coordinate a study: 90 days membership at WikiTree and at least 1,000 contributions. There is a limit of 3 studies per coordinator. Please do not request a new study if you do not meet these requirements. See: [[Space:Name Study Coordinator Duties]]

To participate in a study: Everyone is welcome to participate.

If you respond, please let us know in your response which study you are interested in.

Yes, Please, I would love to join.
Thanks a lot for asking, I will be delighted to participate in the One Name project!!
Which studies @Colleen and @Martin?
I meant that I would like to participate in the One Name project related to the Zuviria family name
Is it de Zuviria or just Zuviria, Martin?
the family name is Zuviria and it may be found either written as Zuviria or Zubiria. The meaning of this basque family name is "poblacion del puente" (settlement by the bridge). The "de" is a preposition used to connect the name with the family name; it was used to indicate origin. In this case it would have meant in former time someone, e.g. Martin, coming from the settlement by the bridge.
Thanks, Martin!

The study page is here:https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Space:Zuviria_Name_Study

Please request addition to the Trusted List via the link in the upper right of the page.
I would love to participate, but do not see my family surname, Coward.  Am I missing it?

Thank you
No, there is no Coward Study at this time. We will create one when we acquire a coordinator for it. (Someone with 90 days and 1000 contributions to WikiTree.)
I would love to join, for the surname Holtslag, but I do not yet have 1,000 contributions, but am working towards it.

You'll be ready to coordinate one soon, Jay, if that is your goal. In the meantime, you can contribute to any study, including the Hughey study.

Yup, already in the study. Ha!

Yes, I am interested in the Paskvan one name study group.
by Georgine Paskvan G2G1 (1.8k points)
Hi Georgine, Please resubmit your request when you meet the requirements outlined in the post. :-)  Thanks, Natalie

I am confused. This is what the post said--

I answered the qestion with a yes.
You can participate in a study if it exists, but there is none yet. When you have 1000 contributions to WikiTree, you may become the coordinator of a study and you can request to have one added! You can work on the profiles at any time though.

I would love to participate in the One Name Study for the surname Haraguchi and Grinnell.

Thanks!
by Michelle Spurlock G2G Crew (410 points)
Those studies do not exist, so are you asking to coordinate them? They won't be created unless they have a coordinator.
Yes please! Thank you.
Just getting these done today, Michelle. Welcome to One Name Studies. Please request addition to the trusted list of both of the pages.

I would like to start a One Name Study of the surname: Saczawa aka Sączawa (the root spelling of my surname.)  I'm interested in tracing migration patterns, geographical location, etc.  I'm not sure how you would prefer create the study since the root spelling has the Polish character and may be more difficult to search?  Thanks

I think we can do the Polish name, after all, we have other languages in use in name studies. Which do you prefer?
Definitely Sączawa.  Thank you Natalie!
It's set up and I awarded the badge to you. You will need to request access to the page:https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Space:S%C4%85czawa_Name_Study
Thanks Natalie!

The Price Name Study has been set up but it does not have a coordinator presently.  I would like to volunteer to be coordinator please.  I have Prices in my line and would like to know more about the name.
by Paula Franklin G2G6 Pilot (109k points)
Done. You will have to request addition to the trusted list of the main study page.

I would like to add my Willsman/Welsman one-name study, but I have a long way to go before I reach the required number of wikitree contributions! My study is registered with The Guild of One-Name Studies https://one-name.org/name_profile/willsman/
by Liz Craig G2G1 (1.3k points)
Ok, hang in there, Liz. While you're working toward that goal, you can familiarize yourself with using categories and stickers, adding sources to profiles, etc. :-) Welcome to WikiTree.
Thank you :)
