This is a 1913 photo taken in Gage, Oklahoma of my husband's great grand uncle Emerson Dorris Hill. He is with his wife and seven daughters. His eighth child was a boy.

Emerson was a veteran of the Spanish American War; he served as bugler and as a military policeman in Cuba.

Alexis gorgeous of of your husband’s great gran uncle

He certainly had a big family thank you for sharing the story and profile
Susan, thank you for your nice comment. Yes, this was a big family, and all these girls had relatively long lives. Laura, the little one in the middle, lived to age 99.
Alexis:

He looks a little bit like Alfalfa Bill - the clothes and the mustache.  You can tell when it was taken.

                               Roger

Roger, thank you for the great comment. I was told by my husband great aunt how they were related to Alfalfa Bill Murray by marriage. I was about 25 at the time, and I only remember bits and pieces. I tried to make the connection and hit a brick wall, but I think you just gave me a push to try going down that rabbit hole again.wink

Love the pic, Alexis! There used to be a hole in the wall joint in Gage that had awesome ribeye dinners. It was always a must visit whenever we were in Woodward. Sadly, they  shut down years ago. Sooooo gooood!

John, thank you for the wonderful comment. Not many people have been to Gage. I told my husband that I wanted to make a trip out there to take some photos, since it had been so long since I had been there—but he had no interest in going with me.smiley

This photo is my 2 X GGM  Louisa Green 28 Dec 1836 to 30 Dec 1899, born lived and died in Wednesbury, Staffordshire, England, plus her 3 daughters Alice Hannah, Bertha Jane and Louisa. The other 8 children were boys. Out of the eleven children only 1 child Alfred did not survive to adulthood he died at 8 months

For the time period, M Ross, it is remarkable that there was but one early death among eleven children.  And Louisa Green was thoughtful to have a photo taken with just the daughters.
Alfred died from hydrocephalus/water on the brain, there was no even partially successful means of treatment until 1929, and even today the condition cannot be 'fixed' only managed.
Yes, one child lost is one child too many. At least these children can survive longer today.

This is my GG Grandparent's 5 oldest children. My great grandfather, George, is in the middle. It's strange to me that they only had these 5 kids in a picture, when they had 5 other daughters as well. Maybe some day I'll stumble across a picture of all of them together. So my "Daughters" are the 3 in this pic, and the five who didn't make the cut. smiley

A great photo, John.  As it happens, it looks like we're cousins, both descendants of https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Robberts-26 .
That's awesome, Mark! Always great to meet family!

This is my mother with her daughter (me) and two other mothers' daughters, friends who lived on our street.  We are window shopping.  The year was 1960, a year when we checked out store windows before stepping inside the store.  Sometimes we never stepped inside. We just looked at the display.  My father (not much of a window shopper) was more interested in photographing us.

by Pat Miller G2G6 Pilot (223k points)
That's what I like about small town stores they still have window displays.

Nice picture Pat!
Pat, thank you for sharing another great photo. Your father was an amazing photographer.
Thank you, M Ross.  You're right, small towns still have window displays.
Thank you, Alexis.  You can see the row of parked cars in the reflection in the window, an added bonus to Dad's photo in my opinion.

What a wonderful photo Pat with your mother and you and two other girls a delightful photo thank you for sharing heart

Thank you, Susan.  heart

It's been a while since I've posted here, but when I saw the topic, this photo came to mind and I wanted to share it.

In the center is my great-grandmother Ann Mary (Chandler) Dodge and her five daughters, Ida May, twins Eda and Eva, Ethel May, and Florence. Other than the twins, on the right of Ann, I don't know who is who. This photo may have been taken around 1900 in Boone County, Nebraska, USA.

Robin, it is great to see you posting a photo. You have wonderful photos, and I love, love this one!
Thanks, Alexis. It's nice to participate again. Life will slow down again one day (I hope). It was funny, I had to remember the routine.
That is a great picture. Thanks for sharing.
I too love this photo, Robin. However, the curious side of me wonders (and guesses) what the colors of their outfits might be.
Thank you, Mark.
Hi Pat, I agree... let's guess that they are lovely shades of blue, green, and maybe some pastels -- and not dark and dreary colors.
Awesome pic, Robin! Thanks for sharing!
Thank you, John.
Robin thank you for sharing this wonderful photo, of your grandmother and her 5 daughter

They all look adorable
Thank you, my friend!
Oh. the hair styles!

My father was always disappointed that he had no sons to take hunting or ice fishing. Sometimes he asked us if we wanted to go with him, but my sister and I always thought he was just teasing. Finally, when she was 40 years old, she went ice fishing with him. A happy memory!

That's how I learned how to ice fish! No shanties or generators. Just sitting on a bucket, drilling holes, and fishing. And don't talk because it scares the fish! laugh

Thanks for the comment, John. We lived near the lake, so it was easy to go out on the ice, catch a few fish, bring them home, and eat them that night. When he retired, though, my father built an ice shanty and would drive up to Lake Champlain with Uncle Elmer for some more serious ice fishing.

Daughters.....first born (14 May 1970).....while land clearing a high voltage powerline right of way to a new copper mine on the north end of Vancouver Island, I returned 300 miles to North Vancouver, a week early, to attend their birth, Cynthia, 2 pounds 15 ounces, did not breath right away and spent 5 weeks in an incubator,, Alana, 5 pounds 2 ounces spent 2 weeks in an incubator.....I bought a motorhome and we all travelled to the North end of Vancouver Island 'til Christmas, when we flew to the Queen Charlotte Islands to visit their maternal grandparents.

John gorgeous daughter they really are adorable thank you for sharing
Thanks for the enjoyable photo spread, John.  I am always amazed at your details of your working life.  Do you ever miss it?  Or not at all because you can return any time in your memory.
Thankyou Susan, my paternal grandmother was a twin with 9 additional brothers......I wondered when the pendulum would swing and start producing daughters......now we know.
Yes Pat, I miss it.....have to catch myself when I get ambitious ideas and limit the work to vintage equipment and motorhome maintenance (which I'm doing this week, in the suitable weather), while I enjoy reminiscing about family with fellow WikiTree members......time to enjoy episodes, again, that remain in our memory along with those of others, and, especially when paths cross.
Well said, John.  Carry on.
