It appears from the data on John's brother Jennings Bryan Petit that these are the parents.

I'm not sure why you'd question his name, since the death cert. information was provided by son Jennings. However, he apparently also went by the name Frank, as he is named in the 1910 U.S. Census in South Carolina, where Lydia M., Jennings, John F and other children are listed also. Family search also lists Francis Marion Petit (although in other places it is spelled Pettit) as the father of Jennings, born in 1897. With his name on Lydia's death certificate, on son Jenning's birth record, and as Frank, a common nickname for Francis, on the census. I think we can say that Francis Marion Pettit was Lydia's husband.
