Image automatically deleted ?

Question

I noticed that an image I uploaded for Héroux-114 was automatically deleted and I received no notification about it. I reloaded it and the new image has the same ID as the prior one, so apparently the image was completely removed: https://www.wikitree.com/photo/jpg/Heroux-114-4

As far as I can recall the image was uploaded on or about August 9, 2017.

The image is of a section of text from a source and I'd included it "in-line" in the profile. Is there an automated process or a WikiTree policy of deleting images under certain circumstances, and if so, what are the criteria? Also, if an image is removed, I think it would be very useful to include that information in a user's activity feed !

This is not the first image I've noticed has been removed without warning.

Also, I see that the image URL has accent marks stripped out. Profile Héroux-114 image ID's have the form Heroux-114-* . Is this expected behaviour?

Now that I think of it, in both cases of deletion the image was not linked to any profiles ... I was using them both "in-line" and they did not appear as profile images per se. Can this be the issue, and if so, this would seem to make in-line-only images unfeasible on WikiTree ?

Hi Antoine.  I think you may have solved your own problem.  I'm not aware of any policy of deleting images, but if an image is not attached to any profile, it does get deleted.  (That's the way a member deletes a photo he no longer wants posted -- he removes all the profile IDs that are associated with the image.)  If you want in-line images, but don't want them to appear under the Images tab or in the right column of the profile, you can create your own free-space page for that purpose.  Upload the image to the free-space page, and then copy the code for in-line usage from that page and paste it in the profile where you want the in-line image to appear.

Makes sense, and good to know. Still, it would be nice to get notification when a deletion happens :) Or possibly the image "edit" page should give a warning when the last profile link is removed, stating that images not linked to profiles will be deleted.
