200 year rule?

Sorry to ask but I'm new here. Am I right in thinking that ancestors added to Wiki that were born over 200 years ago have their privacy setting as public? I only ask as I am trying to wade through a whole list of William Gray's to see if any of them are one of my ancestors, and it would be easier to check if that was the case. Thanks

Clarification:

Profiles of persons over 200 years should be set to Open:white, however, they are frequently mis set to public:green, especially ones with no dates.

Hi Catherine!  Thank you for joining us!

Profiles that are 200+ years are open.

To narrow your search for William Gray, this is what I posted on a previous G2G:

Right, there are 2521 John Smiths.  For any searches beyond the first 100, you have to go down the page to:

  • Enter an Optional Birth Date (just the closest year estimate; it doesn't need to be the full date).
  • Set Strictness for date matching: to Plus or Minus 12 years, or Plus or Minus 30 years.
  • Set Skip people without a date? to Only match against people with birth dates
  • And then click the Search button to search again.

This is precisely why an estimated birth year should be a minimum requirement. I just discovered that you can also go to the bottom of the page and Search Any Text - Use Google to search WikiTree pages: to enter search terms such as Simon Smith and Elizabeth Bateman to get a list of pages with a husband and wife.

Hope this helps.
