The English (originally Swiss) de Salis family (Counts) were landlords in The Grange area of SE County Limerick, Ireland, for centuries during occupation until the early 1900s. They (2nd. Count de Salis) married into the Fane family (Mary Fane) (Earls of Westmorland), who in turn had an earlier marital connection with the Bourchier family (Earls of Bath), acquiring the Bourchier estates in the Lough Gur locality and wider. Mary Fane's sister, Dorothy, married John Montagu, 4th Earl of Sandwich.
