Biography

Adam Cramer was the son of Timothy Cramer and Marie Eva Koester ( Cramer )

He was born in 1790 in Northampton, Pennsylvania, USA, the son of Mary and Timothy. He married Prudence "Prunie" Mary Matthews in 1813 in Ontario. They had 13 children in 24 years.

Adam Passed Away on October 13, 1868, in Ontario having lived a long life of 78 years.

Cramer Family Information as researched by Graeme MacKay; " On the 1861 census, Hannah lived in his household. She was 84 years old, born in 1777. She was a widow and I know now she was Prudence's mother. She was also born in the USA. Now I have learned from Marilyn Cramer that Hannah was born 31 Oct 1776 in Weathersfield VT and died Nov 1870 in Woodstock. Marilyn got her information from The Ancestry World Tree data on Matthews family posting. The 1851 census gave information about Adam's farm: Concession of range 1, lot 6, acres 85, 60 under cultivation=crops 40 & pasture 20, under wood or wild 25. Wheat 6 acres-produce 100 bsh, hay-bundles of tons 20, milk cows 9, calves or heffers 6, horses 5, sheep 0, pigs 2, butter-lbs 600, pork-barrels 5. Remarks: cannot be beat for wheat. The land records at the Land Registry in Hamilton, Ontario shows Adam's property as Concession l, Lots 7 & 8, but nothing on Lot 6. Next time I go back, I will also look in Concession 2 to see if there is additional land. In October, 1997, Don and Janet Pratt drove Kim and me to W. Flamborough. We were looking for Lot 6, so did not find the right property. We did find Cramer Road with the original wooden sign as well as the current street sign. On the 1999 trip, the wooden sign was gone. We learned that at one time, Cramer Road went all the way from #5 to #99. Farmers would use the road taking their grain to the mill on Crooks Hollow Road. Phyllis Kraemer (husband from Jacob Kraemer line) said Adam (and family?) came to W. Flamborough with two Amish families, the Shavers and the Rymals. The Cramers were catholic. They couldn't read or write, so someone else changed the spelling from Kraemer to Cramer. This not to say this information is true. The family is listed as Wesley Methodist on the census. I know for sure Samuel, James, John and Peter are their children and am guessing that the others belong in the family. In 1860, one of the children died of consumption at age twenty-three. My guess is that it was Margaret, who was probably a twin to John, both are listed as born in 1837. In June 1999, Kim and I went back to Ontario. We found marriage information at the Greenville Library. Sarah married Nelson McQueen Smith, Samuel married Margaret Nicol, James married Jane Dixon and Eliza married Daniel Cornell. James and Eliza's was a double wedding. The land record gave us the names of Adam's parents: Timothy and Mary. Marilyn Cramer has found them in Northampton County, PA."
