Biography

Geurt Dijkland was born on 12 May 1832 in Renswoude, Utrecht, Nederland. He was the son of Geurt Dijkland and Hendrica van Barneveld. ^{[1] [2] [3] [4]}

Although originally not chosen in the raffle for military service, he served in someone's elses place in the 2nd Regiment Infanterie from 27 April 1853 to 15 May 1858. He served again as a replacement in the 1st Regiment Vesting Artillerie from 30 April 1860, and was still serving there at the date of his second marriage. ^[5]

At the age of 25 he married Jannetje van Manen on 12 December 1857 in Veenendaal, Utrecht. ^{[3] [6] [4]} They had children Dirk and Hendrika. Dirk was legitimized at their marriage. ^[3] Both their children died young. His wife Jannetje died on 15 October 1859, aged 27.

At the age of 32 he married Anna Maria Leppers on 12 November 1864 in Veenendaal, Utrecht. ^{[4] [5]}. They had children; Johanna, Hendrika, Marinus, Geurt, Jannetje and Hendrika.

He worked as a weaver. ^{[3] [4]}

He died on 22 February 1877 at the age of 44 in Veenendaal, Utrecht. ^[2]
