Moses Doane,[1] the son of Moses Doane and Rachel Tomlinson, was born probably in Bucks County, Pennsylvania,January 22, 1781 and died at Wheatland, Monroe County, New York, February 5, 1861. He married,in 1808, Mary W. Comfort, the daughter of John Comfort and Mary Woolman of Falls Township, Bucks County. Mary died at Wheatland on July 20, 1878. "Moses Doane was the only child of the outlaw Moses and Rachel (Tomlinson) Doane, and was nearly three years old when his father was killed in Halsey's tavern. He lived with his uncle, Samuel Tomlinson, who gave him a trade, a horse and a promise that" he would do well by him." The uncle died, without a will, leaving his promise unfulfilled. After his marriage Mr. Doane settled, first, in Falls township where he purchased a farm for twenty-five hundred dollars.[2][3] Yielding to the persuasion of his uncle, Joseph Doane the refugee, he migrated to Canada sometime after 1823. He lived in Canada only about one year when he returned and settled in Wheatland.[4][5][6]" He and his wife are both buried in the Quaker Cemetery in Wheatland, New York.[7]
