William Plumsted’s daughter, Elizabeth, a lady of noted beauty, became the wife of Andrew Elliott, and his granddaughter, Elizabeth, daughter of Andrew and Elizabeth (Plumsted) Elliott, became lady of the bed-chamber to the queen of England (Queen Charlotte wife of George lll) and wife of William Schaw Cathcart, who was created Earl Cathcart in 1814. (Elizabeth was Lady in Waiting to three of the Princesses, The Cathcarts lived in a Grace & Favour house at Windsor)
The marriage license is recorded in 'New York, under date of April 9th 1779, of " Elizabeth Plumsted Elliot and Lord Cathcart." They were married in the evening of April 10th, probably at the First or Wall Street Presb. Church of which her father was an elder and active member.
