Biography

H. G. LeLoup was born in Germany and had an older brother Ewald. His widowed mother, Dora, brought the boys to the United States when she was 40 years old sometime after the end of World War I. Dora's husband Johann, who was a soldier in the German Army on the eastern front in World War I, was killed toward the end of the war and after the war was over run-away inflation was making life in Germany very difficult. Some of Dora's siblings also came to America. Dora came about 1923 and worked as a live-in cook in Manhattan homes. Sometimes in the beginning she was able to have the boys with her and sometimes she had to board them out. Later, all three were able to get an apartment in Queens. Ewald and H. George LeLoup automatically became U. S. citizens when their mother fulfilled the requirements to become a citizen.^[1][2][3]

Helmut served in the US Army and was in WWII.

Helmut married Violet Bilger (1912-1980) on 13 June 1936 in Astoria, Queens, New York, United States.

Helmut would go on to go into the flower business in Gladstone, New Jersey on a 110 acre farm where a greenhouse was started for carnations.

Helmut passed away in 1997 and is buried in Hilltop Cemetery Plot Section Y, Lot D, Mendham, Morris County, New Jersey, USA.^[4]
