For what it may be worth, the writer of this book http://www.staffordshirecountystudies.uk/Memorials%20of%20Old%20Staffordshire,%20Beresford,%20W,%20Rev.pdf seems to indicate (apparently without citation) that Maud was not the daughter of the Earl of Chester but rather of Ralph the Earl of Mantes, referencing issues with her name in "the Charter of Evesham Abbey."

According to the chart above she was the daughter of the Earl of Chester. This would be Hugh d'Avranches (d'Avranches-48 in wikitree) who was known to have had several illegitimate children.
