    OBITUARY Mrs. Charles Underwood
The late Mrs. Nora Underwood, whose death occurred in the District Hospital on Tuesday, was 63 years of age. Deceased was the wife of Mr. Chas. Underwood, of Ross Street, and had lived in Inverell for the past 30 odd years, she had not enjoyed good health for many months and her demise followed a serious operation on Monday last.
The late Mrs. Underwood was born at Stratford-on-Avon, a daughter of late Mr. and Mrs. John Baker, of Birmingham (England). Her parents died when she was in her infancy and in 1906 the late Mrs. Underwood came to Australia. She lived in Sydney for a short period, after which she came to the North-west, residing in the Moree district. She married at the Inverell Methodist Church in 1909 and has lived here ever since.
Ill health prevented the late Mrs. Underwood from being always actively associated with church affairs but she was ever ready to do all in her power. Her family and church affairs were her main interests in life.
In addition to her husband deceased is survived by four daughters and four sons, namely, Mrs. C. Hodges (Little Plain), and Misses Florence, Betty and Madge Underwood (Inverell): Messrs. William and Walter (Inverell) and Ptes. Albert and Arthur (A.I.F. Tamworth).
The interment was made in the Methodist portion of the local cemetery on Wednesday afternoon, Rev. Bruce Gentle and Adjutant Gates conducted a service at the church and graveside.
In a short address Adjutant Gates said:— On such an occasion as this it is very natural the minds of bereaved relatives should be obsessed with an awful sense of separation from their loved one; a great deal of comfort may be derived first of all by looking back over the years of family life, and then by looking forward to the day of reunion. The men and women who have taken a prominent part in church life stand out in the public eye as pre-eminent Christians; but Christ has many servants who live quietly for Him in the home: Mrs. Underwood was one of these. Prevented by bodily weakness and the cares of a large family from taking much public part in the work of the Kingdom of God, she had not neglected spiritual things.
As recently as twenty-four hours before her death, when such a possibility seemed remote, she had given a definite assurance that all was well between her soul and God. We need to remember, continued the Adjutant, that the experience we call death is only the passage from one form of life to another. Man is an immortal being, and although disease and death may destroy his body, he can never die. We can look forward, even through a mist of tears, towards that day when all who die in Christ will be reunited to loved ones who have already crossed into the Great Beyond. God grant that all may live in such a fashion as to be counted worthy to hear from the Masters lips — "Well done good and faithful servant."
Funeral arrangements were in the hands of Mr. W. J. Thorley.
