Johann August was born on 4 June 1827 in Füramoos in the parish of Bellamont, in which church he baptized the same day by Johannes Gunderdorf. His mother, Idda Hirsch from Burgrieden, apparently concealed her identity, because the baptism book states her surname as "Kaiser" and the father as unknown.[1]
When the baptism later was registered in her home town of Burgrieden between September and October of the same year, the father was stated as Heinrich Lenggenhager, a wine and crockery dealer near St. Gallen in Switzerland ("Wein- und Geschirrhändler bei St. Gallen in der Schweiz").[2]
In 1845 Johann August entered the Catholic Convict in Ehingen.[3]
On 21 December 1852 he was ordained in Solothurn in Switzerland as Catholic priest. In 1853 he became vicar in Oberried, in 1856 parish administrator (Pfarrverweser) in Nußbach (currently: part of Triberg im Schwarzwald). In 1859 had the same position in Leibertingen, before he became benefice ("Benefiziat") in Meßkirch. In 1862 he became parish administrator and parish priest of Boll (currently part of Sauldorf)[4] and in 1869 parish administrator in Selbach (currently part of Gaggenau).[5]
He passed away on 26 August 1889.[5]
