Wilson Flaugher Obituary

(cont.) Helen Louise (Mrs. A. C. Kurtz); Juliet Angeline (Mrs. D. W. Wager of Toledo) and George Edward, who died Dec. 20th, 1895, at the age of thirteen. His wife died Nov. 8th, 1903.

Mr. Flaugher was a member and has been commander of the George R. McRitchie Post for a number of years. In religious matters he was an outspoken free thinker, and a great admirer of Robert G. Ingersol.

(cont.) He re-enlisted February 28th, 1864, and participated in all the battles with his regiment from Nashville, Tenn., to Atlanta, Ga., and was mustered out with his regiment at the close of the war, at Columbus, Ohio., November 30th 865. After the war he returned to Tiffin and remained there until the 13th of February, 1866, when he came to Port Clinton to work for W. B. Sloan of the Ottawa County Union, where he continued until August 16th, 1872. At that time he opened up the Star Bakery and remained in this business many years.

He was married June 6th, 1866, to Juliet Smith, daughter of Sylvester and Angeline Smith of Port Clinton, and to this union six children were born. Harry Eugene, who died in infancy, Harriet Isabel (Mrs. B. G. Montgomery); James Sylvester, died in infancy;

W. S. Flaugher.

Wilson Shannon Flaugher was born at Tiffin, Seneca County, Ohio, October 17th, 1842. He was the youngest child of J. B. and Sarah (Cole) Flaugher. He is the last of his family. Seven brothers and sisters preceded him in death, John, Jacob, Samuel, Joseph, Elizabeth, Margaret, Kathrine. He spent his childhood and youth at Tiffin and when a young man, entered the employ of his brother, John, editor and proprietor of the Democratic Sentinel at Fremont, Ohio. He worked in the office of this paper until August 16th, 1861, when he enlisted in Co. F. 49th O. V. I. and went into active service with this regiemtn. He was wounded April 2nd, 1862, in the battle of Shiloh, and was discharged September 9th, 1863, on account of wounds received in this battle. (cont.)
