After the death of Henry Franklin Jr, his wife Mary Ann Higginbotham Franklin remarried to Benjamin Arnold. She had two slaves from the estate of the deceased husband Henry Franklin Jr. On 5 February 1787, a deed was filed in Amherst County Court selling the two slaves to Samuel Higginbotham and Henry Franklin Sr. The proceeds from the sale were given to the children of Mary Ann and Henry Franklin Jr. The children were: Reuben, Aaron, Jasper, Peachie, Anthony & Henry Tarleton.
