Obituary Monroe Harrison Isbell

“M. H. Isbell Dead. McRae, Ga., Enterprise, July 25. M. H. Isbell, a prominent farmer of this county, died at his home a few mile from here last week after a short illness. He had been living in this county only a few years, coming here from Anderson, S.C. where he was a prominent officer in Mattison Camp, W.O.W. Since coming here he had made many warm friends, who were grieved to learn of his death. Mr. Isbell was born in Oconee County, South Carolina, on April 24, 1858, which made him 60 years of age at the time of his death. He was married to Miss Lizzie Fennell on November 22, 1881, and is survived by his wife and four children – Mrs. M. Herzberg, of Atlanta, Ga., and Robert F. Isbell, who is serving in the aviation corps, and is now stationed at Camp Mead, Md. He failed to reach home until after the funeral. The funeral and interment were at Midway Methodist church, where a large and sympathizing crowd was present to pay the last sad tribute to their much loved friend. The services were conducted by Rev. C. C. Hines, of this city, after which the Woodmen of the World conducted a very impressive service at the grave. The above will be read with much regret by many in Oconee who knew the deceased. Mr. Isbell at one time was counted among the stalwart citizens of Oconee. He was respected by all who knew him for his worth as a citizen and for his integrity. The sympathy of many goes out to the bereaved ones”.
