On the date hereinafter mentioned, personally appeared before me, a Notary Public within and the County and State aforesaid James H Jackson, aged 63 years, a resident of the City of Benton Harbor County of Berrien, State of Michigan, who, being duly sworn according to law, declares that he is the identical James H Jackson who was ENROLLED on the Eighth day of April, 1863, in Co[mpany] "D" 54" Reg[imen]t Mass[achusetts] Col[ored] Inf[antry] in the war of the Rebellion, and served not less than ninety days, and was HONORABLY DISCHARGED at Charleston South Carolina, on the 29 day of August 1865.
