The church was built in neo classical style by architect John Reveley in 1792-95 and was notable for its Corinthian pillars on the west front, and its expansive roof with stone cupola. Catacombs were built under the church in which many of the town's dignitaries were buried. All Saints Church replaced the medieval church "All Hallows" on this site, which was demolished in 1791. All Saints was virtually destroyed in World War II. Situated on Back of the Walls south of East Street, the graveyard was some way from the church and actually outside All Saints' parish. It was established soon after the church was built and was full by 1843. It was closed c1885. In 1914 it was deconsecrated and the headstones removed.
