Re-dedication of new grave for Robert Cole

The family had new bases made for the headstones of Robert Cole and his mother, Elisa Jane (Jones). The bases are engraved with information that was not legible from the original headstones. Robert's headstone, in this photo, had his unit listed: Company G, 22nd Mississippi Regimetn.

For the dedication of the new headstones, a small service was held on April 18, 2009. Several people attended including descendants Nancy Cole Douglas and Gary Cole from Texas. Other COLE descendants were Maribeth (Cole) Coker and Hannah (Cole) Nall*. An honor guard stood over Robert's grave during the service. These were reenactors from Stanford's Battery. Later they fired a 3-shot volley from their original Civil War cannon. What a blast that was!!

There were two articles in the Greenwood Commonwealth newspaper about this memorial. One article was published the Thursday before the memorial service and one article was the day after.

• Hannah Nall recently named her daughter Eliza Jane, which is the same name as Robert Cole's mother, who is buried next to them.
