Scanned from a family collection photographed by April Dauenhauer. This ornately carved Bible was given to Constant Barchus (the "C. Barchus" on the front) and his bride Ann Elizabeth (Sherrill) Barchus on the occasion of their wedding. The giver was Ann's grandfather, Richard Evans.
Richard Evans and his daughter, Mary Ann (Evans) Sherrill, with her new husband, James Sherrill, and other relatives, traveled the Oregon Trail in 1852 from Iowa to the Willamette Valley, Oregon. A 'newcomer' in 1864, who homesteaded a farm "next door" to them, was Constant Barchus, and he married Ann Elizabeth Sherrill, the eldest daughter of James and Mary Ann (Evans) Sherrill.
