Author Jno Sloat (possibly John Drake Sloat who wrote a book on the genealogy of his Sloat line). The original is a large format page with a hand drawn family tree sent to Thaddeus Sloat with annotated questions in red ink referring to specific missing data in the chart and requesting help. Stamped with the date "Apr 14, 1915" and "Jno D Sloat, 5803 Page Ave, St. Louis, MO". The accompanying envelope was stamped with a return address "FROM JNO. D. SLOAT, DRY GOODS, 5809 PAGE AVENUE, ST. LOUIS, - MO." and had a hand-written delivery address of "Mr Thaddeous Sloat, Grayville, Illinois". The envelope has a cancelation stamp of "ST. LOUIS, MO, APR 15, 3-AM, 1915" and a 2 cents U.S. Postage stamp.
    • Transcriber and Photo Editor notes:
  • This page came to my) my attention in 2011. I received the multiple images of the page as it was scanned in multiple sections by Joe Ross. I then overlaid the color scans on a low-quality, complete B-W image (hence the varying colorations and some B-W spots).
  • Thaddeus, the addressee, was born in 1854 so he was 61 yrs old. He died in 1918 so most likely the only reason this letter still exists is because he did not have the interest, strength or time to respond, and the letter was packed away at his death. (assumption by DESloat 1 Sep 2011))
