The only surviving flag from the 2nd Georgia Infantry Regiment was crafted in 1860 by eight women in Burke County, Georgia. "Calling this flag rare would be an understatement," stated Richard Hatch of Richard D. Hatch & Associates, Auctioneers. "It's the only one known to exist; a significant piece of American history." The consignor is a direct descendant of the flag bearer, William Douse Whitehead, who was killed at the Battle of Malvern Hill on July 1, 1862. After the war, the flag was returned to descendants of Whitehead in Burke County.

It was sold at public auction in 2008.
