WIDOW'S DECLARATION FOR PENSION OR INCREASE OF PENSION

(This must be executed before a Notary Public or other Officer having a seal.)

State of New Jersey, County of Camden, ss:

On this 5th day of April, A.D. 1900, personally appeared before me, -, a NOTARY PUBLIC within and for the County and State aforesaid, Emma Rice, aged 56 years, who, being duly sworn according to law, makes the following declaration in order to obtain the Pension provided by Acts of Congress granting pension to widows; That she is the widow of Joseph J. Rice, who enlisted under the name of Joseph J. Rice at -, on the - day of -, A.D. 18--, in Company D 54 Massachusetts Volunteers in the war of the Rebellion, who died on the 4th of July, A.D. 1897, who was Private in Company D 54 Massachusetts Volunteers that she was married under the name of Emma ["Saunders Widow of [TBD]cker D. B[TBD]son" crossed out] McGuire to said Joseph J. Rice, on the 10th day of July A.D. 1871, by Reverend James Hopkins, at Stockton, New Jersey there being no legal barrier to such marriage; that she and her husband had been previously married his first wife was dead and my first husband had died five years before; that she has to present date remained his widow; that the following are the names and dates of birth of all his legitimate children yet surviving who were under sixteen years of age at father's death, viz: [blank]

that she had not abandoned the support of any one of her children, but that they are still under her care of maintenances.

that she has not in any manner engaged in, or aided or abetted, the rebellion in the United States; that no prior application has been filed;

she hereby appoints, with full power of substitution and revocation, FREDERICK BENJAMIN of Washington, D.C., her attorney, to prosecute the above claim; that her residence is No. 9 ex, Walnut Street, Camden New Jersey, and that her post-office address is the same.
