SIR:

In the above-entitled claim, Joshua Richards, whose Post Office address was #7100 S. [or L.] 8th Street Camden, New Jersey testified before Mary E. Ackley, a Notary Public in Camden county, New Jersey, on January 27, 1902 that he knew the soldier and claimant from the time they were married in 1871. Know that they lived together as man and wife and were never divorced from each other and the claimant has not remarried since the soldier's death July 3, 1897. The claimant has no property and no income accept what she earns by her own labor.

Please refer this letter to a special examiner with instructions to ascertain witness' reputation for veracity, and his knowledge of the matters set forth above.
