GENERAL AFFIDAVIT

State of New Jersey, County of Camden, SS:

In the matter of Pension Claim of Emma Rice widow Joseph J. Rice, Company D 54th Massachusetts

ON THIS [blank] day of October, A.D. 1901, personally appeared before me, a Notary Public within and for the County and State aforesaid, duly authorized to administer oaths, Emma Rice, aged [blank] years, a resident of Camden, in the County of Camden, and State of New Jersey, whose Post Office address is 924 East Baxter Street, Camden [...] well known to be reputable and entitled to credit, and who being duly sworn, declared in relation to aforesaid case as follows:

I am the claimant in the above described claim.

I am unable to prove the marriage of my last husband Joseph J. Rice to his first wife, by Public Record, because said marriage took place before the war of Rebellion and no records were kept of such occurrences at that time in the place he was married. For the same reason I cannot furnish record evidence to prove the death of his first wife and the death of my first husband. The evidence I have furnished on these points is the best I can get.

I do not own any property, real or personal, and have no income or means of support except what I earn by the work of my hands. I am in part dependent on the charity of my friends.

I lived with Joseph J. Rice from the time I married him up to the date of his death and have no remarried since his death.
