GENERAL AFFIDAVIT
State of New Jersey, County of Camden, SS:
IN THE MATTER OF Pension Claim No. 717484 of Emma Rice, widow of Joseph J. Rice
ON THIS 27th day of January, A.D. 1902, personally appeared before me, a Notary Public within and for County and State aforesaid, duly authorized to administer oaths, Norman G. Simmons, aged 56 years, a resident of Camden in the County of Camden, and State of New Jersey, whose Post Office address is 717 Baxter Street Camden, New Jersey, and Joshua Richards aged 56 years, a resident of Camden in the County of Camden, and State of New Jersey, whose Post Office address is 1100 S. 8th Street Camden New Jersey, well known to be reputable and entitled to credit, and who being duly sworn, declared in relation to aforesaid case as follows:
They have known Emma Rice, formerly Emma McGuire, and Joseph J. Rice, who died July 3rd, 1897, ever since they were married to each other in 1871. That said parties lived together as husband and wife from the date of their marriage, up to the death of said Joseph J. Rice, and since his death, said Emma Rice has not remarried. That said Emma Rice does not own any real estate or personal property and has no income except what she earns by her own labor. There is no one legally bound to support said Emma Rice.
They know the above facts because they are intimately acquainted with said Emma Rice and have seen her frequently and talked with her about her affairs freely ever since they have known her.
They further declare they have no interest in said case and are not concerned in its prosecution.
