This record shows that William Stephens was transported to Hobart aboard the 'Deveron,' which appeared to run convicts between Sydney and Hobart, as well as making runs between London and Van Dieman's Land with convicts[1] In 1839, working as a carter and living as a free man, William was convicted of stealing two planks of wood and sentenced to 12 months imprisonment and hard labor, bread and water, no chains.
