Biography

Elizabeth Hawkes was born sometime in January 1647 and baptized on January 10, 1647, in Windsor, Connecticut. ^[1] Her father, John, was 34, and her mother, Elizabeth, was 27. She married Joseph Gillett on November 24, 1663, in her hometown. ^{[2] [3]} They had seven children in 10 years. ^[4] When Joseph was killed at the Bloody Brook massacre, Elizabeth then married Nathaniel Dickson on Decmeber 16, 1680 in Hatfield, Hampshire, Massachuetts. ^[5] She died less than a year later as a young mother on October 11, 1681, in Hatfield, Massachusetts, at the age of 34. ^{[6] [7]}

"From Find a Grave: The destruction at Bloody Brook led to the immediate abandonment of the village. "The surviving inhabitants retired to Hatfield and other places. . . . [B]y the spring of 1682 Joseph Gillett's widow Elizabeth (Hawkes) was also dead, after having married, (2) 16 Dec. 1680, as his second wife, Nathaniel Dickinson of Hatfield, Mass.; and at that date her seven children were living."
