Elisha Hotchkiss
Birth: Oct. 11, 1778
Death: Jun. 10, 1858
Mayor of Cincinnati, Lawyer. A native of New Haven, Connecticut, he moved to Orange County, Vermont with in 1804. He graduated from Dartmouth College in the same class as Daniel Webster. He arrived in Cincinnati to practice law in 1815. Hotchkiss became the Justice of the Peace from 1824 until his election as Cincinnati's second Mayor in 1831. A member of the Whig Party, he served from 1831 to 1833. He became a member of the Ohio State House of Representatives in 1834 and 1835. He died in Aurora, Indiana in 1858 when he was 79 years old. His father, Elisha Hotchkiss, served with Connecticut as a soldier during the Revolutionary War. (bio by: Kevin Guy)
