Biography

Amos Gile was born on November 27, 1778 in Chester, Windsor, Republic of Vermont, son of Amos Gile (1749– ).

Amos married Sally Ketchum (born on January 14, 1790 in Vermont).

His children were:

Amos died on February 14, 1849 in Harlem, Leeds, Ontario, Canada, aged 70.

  • Burleigh #299 - "He was farmer at Bristol, VT, and died at Harlem, Ont.">"Proceedings at Chester, VT Jun 29 1909 on Old Home Day" - "copies of earlynewspapers show that Moses Gile and his sons Abner, Moses Jr. and Amos were onthe side of American Independence and therefore were not United EmpireLoyalists." (research of desc. Dorothy Mills, Unionville, Ont.) VT VR Index - Amos Gile, 27 Nov. 1778 at Chester, mother Silane, father AmosGile.
  • Map shows Bristol in Chittenden Co.
  • 1830 census AIS Mansfield, Chittenden, VT. Name Amos Guile.On the same census is a Nathan Guile, same location, unidentified.
  • I asked descendant and researcher Dorothy (Gile) Mills if Amos Gile was aUnited Empire Loyalist - she replied 6/94 "I have never heard or seen any proofof this, but I remember a notation where Sarah Ketchum, a wife, was thedaughter of a U.E.L. I would imagine that it would have been stated if AmosGile was." In her report received 11/94 of her reserach trip to VT - from "Proceedings atChester, VT Jun 29 1909 on Old Home Day" - copies of early newspapers show thatMoses Gile and his sons Abner, Moses Jr. and Amos were on the side of AmericanIndependence and therefore were not U.E.L.'s,
