Research and Historical Notes

The Bathursts are stated to have come into England in the time of the Saxons, from a place called Batters in the Duchy of Luneburg. They gained a settlement near Battle, Sussex, which they called Batters-Hurst, which name was eventually contracted to Bathurst.
Described as youngest son in his father's will. Visitation of Gloucester in 1623 notes that Robert the eldest son was aged 10 putting his birthdate at About 1613. Edward must be after that. Parish records at Lechlade are patchy for the years when the children of this generation would have been born.

explanation for change of marriage info: added "after 1640" as marriage date for Susan Rich & Edward based on note from Eric (with source) that Edward's first wife died 1640.

Hi Eric! It's been a while since I worked on these, but I think that the profile of Bathurst m Anne Morris b 1615 has borrowed info from this Bathurst & they're two different men. I had adopted the profile so I could do more research but lost track of it. I'll put these on my to-do list. (If you have a good source for marriage date to either Susan or Ann...?)

Cheers, Liz

Bathurst-18 and Bathurst-12 appear to represent the same person because: Clear duplicate but according to Peerage.com born ca 1603

Bathurst-106 and Bathurst-12 appear to represent the same person because: 1630/1674 death dates don't match, but I think the profiles should be merged anyway, with 1674 death retained (source for 1630 is a gedcom found in Ancestry library? not sure what that means, but I think in this case ThePeerage.com is the more reliable source)

Bathurst-116 and Bathurst-12 appear to represent the same person because: I have an Edward with just "Sir" as info, although the profile was for a Richard attached as father of Lancelot (Edward was father of Lancelot, see his profile for sources/discussion). If you wanted to attach your Sir Edward to a tree, I think this might be a good one for him based on the info in his profile. Cheers, Liz

b 1603 more likely. Susan Rich his second wife (according to link above, citing Cokayne)

Edward m Susan Rich is said to be father of Lancelot Bathurst, who was born c1646. Could you check your source for 1630 death of this Edward? (reference in text says abt 1556... perhaps that's a century error & 1656 was meant?)

The profile for Lancelot (Bathurst-8) says parents are Edward Bathurst and Susan Rich - I think their profiles are Bathurst-106 and Rich-2218.
