In the 1880 U. S. Census (15 June 1880) [1] Louis and Mary were living in Cohasset, Massachusetts. He was a lawyer and she was keeping house. They had four sons: Thomas J. Cushing was 8, Charles B. Cushing was 6, William F. was 4 and Robert L was 3. Mary's 68 year old mother was a widow and living with them. There were five people in the household who were listed as servants. Two of them were working on the farm which I assume was owned by Louis.
In the 1900 U.S. Census (4 June 1900) [2] Robert was twenty-four and working as a garden laborer. the family was still living in Cohasset, Massachusetts. Louis was a lawyer and Mary was a florist. They had been married twenty-one years and had six children. All of the children were still living in 1900. The home was owned with a mortgage and Mary was listed as having a farm that was owned. There were two younger children who were attending school: Richard W. Cushing was fifteen years old and Sally F. Cushing was fourteen. There were ten people listed in the household as boarders. Two were listed as servants and were likely housekeeping employees. There were two farm laborers, one garden laborer, two nursery laborers, a green house supervisor and driver for the florist wagon.
