Lemuel was the son of Thomas Bryant and his first wife Mary Ewell Bryant. He was baptised February 25, 1722 in Scituate, Plymouth County, Massachusetts. [1]
Lemuel's mother died in 1724 and his father, Thomas, married Mary Barstow on May 14, 1735. Mary was the widow of Joseph Barstow, Jr. who had died in 1728. [1] One of her children was Abigail who would marry Lemuel Bryant. This would make them step-siblings.
Lemuel graduated from Harvard in 1739 and was ordained December 4, 1745. He became a distinguished clergyman in Braintree, Massachusetts.[1]
Lemuel's father, Thomas Bryant, signed a will on December 15, 1748[2] in which Lemuel was left " five & twenty hundred pounds old tenour to be paid at my decease by my Esr's." His brother Thomas was to pay part of that amount out of his share, " the aforesaid Eight Hundred Pounds to be reckoned as part thereof." Lemuel's brothers, Benjamin, Seth, Thomas and Peleg were all given land and were probably farming, but Lemuel, a clergyman, had little need for land.
In 1749, Lemuel signed a receipt for his share of his father's estate.[3]
He married Abigail Barstow on 23 August 1749 in Scituate, Plymouth, Massachusetts. The marriage record indicates Lemuel was "of Brantrey" (Braintree).[4]
He died on October 1, 1754 in Scituate, Massachusetts. [5]
